Our Class Rules
1. Follow directions the first time they are given.
2. Keep hands, feet, and all objects to yourself.
3. Raise your hand and wait to be called on.
4. Return materials where you got them and use them properly.
5. No running or other outside behaviors in the classroom.
We spend a lot of time going over rules, procedures and expectations for responsible work habits, good listening and sharing, safety, taking care of our materials, self-control and respect for others. I do give rewards for good behavior and work habits, attentiveness and positive initiative. I do give reminders before enforcing consequences for inappropriate behavior.

Consequences
I use a turn card system to monitor classroom behavior. Students start every day with a blue card. So, if they turned their card during the day, it will be returned to blue for the following day to start fresh. Through good work and improved/proper behavior a student can also be asked to turn a card back to blue. You will receive notification of your child's behavior at the end of every month through a calendar. Inside the calendar folder will be your child's returned homework packets and books. Review the calendar, sign it, take out all the returned homework to keep at home, and have your child return it for credit towards rewards. Card Colors
Blue = excellent behavior
Yellow = warning
Green = time out to think of their behavior
Orange - loss of recess
Red = phone call to parent
Purple = Principal's office

Rewards
Along with praise, stickers and trips to SpongeBob (the treat box) the students can earn the following rewards for staying on blue.
15 days = A trip to the prize box
25 days = *Free restroom pass
35 days = Lunch with teacher
45 days = A no homework pass for their weekly packet only
As soon as they reach 45 days we begin counting again.
* A free restroom pass means that the child may use the restroom once each day of the assigned week without having to "rent" another student to go with them. For safety purposes, no child will ever leave the classroom without the company of another. Even to the restroom which is next door to our class. So if a child forgets to use the restroom on the way out to recess or lunch and now needs to miss lesson time (and make someone else who was responsible and remembered to take care of business) he has to "pay" them a sticker from their sticker book.
All students at Barranca Elementary School are expected to follow school-wide rules and procedures, do their homework and class assignments, keep hands/feet/objects to themselves, use appropriate and respectful language, respect school property and others' belongings, and to follow directions given by adults in charge. Please remind your child that tag, tackling, "play fighting" and other rough play is not permitted on the playground or anywhere else at school.

When students demonstrate poor character, aides, or other support staff may fill out a PRIDE Problem Pass. The pass will be given to the offender's teacher and it will be recorded as an infraction on the PRIDE Record Sheet.
Incentives
This year we will implement a PRIDE Praise Pass for students exhibiting good character. When students demonstrate good character, teachers, aides, or other support staff may hand them a PRIDE Praise Pass. The student will write their name on the pass so they can enter a monthly drawing to receive a PRIDE prize. The prizes may include, but are not limited to, extra privileges or a special treat. At the end of each trimester, all students with 3 or less infractions will receive special recognition. Each trimester students will be given a new PRIDE Record Sheet and a fresh start.
